The best heavy metal albums?

Can anyone recommend their favourite heavy metal albums? Not black metal - just the good old fashioned heavy metal.

I feel the need for some powerful music. Thanks.

If you're looking for some non-black 'powerful' metal, try these.

Legacy of Kings - Hammerfall
Heading for Tomorrow - Gamma Ray
Louder than Hell - Manowar
Dawn of Victory - Rhapsody of Fire
Stay Hungry - Twisted Sister
Infinite - Stratovarius
Glory to the Brave - Hammerfall
Painkiller - Judas Priest
Powerslave - Iron Maiden
Kings of Metal - Manowar
Crystal Empire - Freedom Call
Marching for Liberty - Wisdom
Mandrake - Edguy
Carolus Rex - Sabaton
Return of the Cosmic Men - Galderia
Magic Never Dies - Power Quest

Hi Slayer,
Thanks for the recommendation.

I browsed the net and decided to buy Judas Priest "British Steel", Iron Maiden "The Number Of The Beast" and Black Sabbath "Paranoia".

It is a start. I already own Metallica "Black Album" and "Master Of Puppets", plus all the Tool albums. Nightwish albums. and a few others.

I'm never going to be a proper Metal fan but it is great to listen to it sometimes.

AC/DC "Back In Black" (double album) is probably the best metal/rock album ever produced. Not my personal favorite, but no doubt the best. My favorite is Deep Purple's "Made In Japan" - a double live album.

It's fun looking at the top 10 and top 100 lists on the 'net.

My favorite at the moment, Masters of reality- Black Sabbath. For a more modern sound. Check out anything mudvaine, or Slipknot. Hope that helps, I don't follow the music charts.

Master of puppets is a good one! So is the black album. If you want a raw Metallica sound you gotta hear " ...and Justice for all. That one and death magnetic are probably there rawest albums. I grew up listing to black Sabbath. When most little kids were Micky mouse and other cartoon songs I was listening to them. ( I blame my older brothers). If you really listen to the lyrics on most Black Sabbath albums there actually deep and spiritual. Just have to open your mind to hear it.

Hard to believe nobody has mentioned Babymetal's first CD. I love that album - it never fails to make me smile.
