Rebelling Against I AM.

This is a trend I have noticed which runs through society. Socialists are prone to this as are some liberals, hippies and in particular the youth.

Some people just get it into their head to rebel against the 'I'. They claim 'we are' or 'God is'. They claim the 'I' is selfish.

I know this because I was one of those people. So were many of my friends. It is very self destructive in the long run.

That Motorhead song in which they sing "you know I am born to lose, and gambling is for fools, but that is the way I like it baby, I don't want to live forever." sums it up.

People say "if you are not socialist when you are young then you have no heart. If you are still socialist when you are old then you have not brain." Implies that the young disregard the 'I' but the old have learnt it is vital.

It is a very romantic notion to forget the 'I'. It suggests we fall in love with each other and live selflessly.

Well, if people want to ''have a heart'' they can always give to charity or volunteer. I can decide for myself where my 'heart' should be focussed upon. We let our rulers decide what is right, but essentially their main duty is to protect its citizens and make sure we live in a functioning, healthy environment.

Since you posted this in the General Religion subforum, I would say this as well; the power of the churches has declined, and secular authorities (government) have taken over many of the churches' responsibilities, and now its increasingly the secular authorities that are the ones that play on our conscience.

The thing I realised is that the universal 'I' is a religion all of it's own. Those who seek self realisation believe that the 'I' leads to God. If you rebel against 'I' then you rebel against your own divinity.

Yes... there are traditions and beliefs with the core tenet that the spiritual 'I', or soul, is god itself. The thing I realised, Honza, is, for in order to make sense of that, you first have to accept a whole set of beliefs (such as reincarnation, 'spiritual evolution', and karma, no original cause for the cycle) to even make theological sense of this tenet.

That is what I have been doing here at SF for the last 15 years. I could not make any sense of I AM at all before that.

But there is also the western interpretation of I AM too. The modern psychology and the understanding that to be tough enough is good.

You can have a heart/soul without being artificial. There's a lot that was mentioned where you have to put on a mask to do. Be natural be who you were born to be. Without the mask/label. You would be stunned to know how many others can see through the mask. Then they wonder, what are you hiding.
