Can someone help me identify this plant?

I found it in my back yard. A bunch of stems were in the fire pit - I think my stepdad may have found some stems around the yard and threw them in the pit.
I saw them, though, and I thought they were pretty.

They have a woody stem and it has needles for leaves. It's hard to explain. It looks like a twig off of a pine tree, but I know it isn't a twig because I saw one stalk growing from the ground.
It smells like lavender and sage...almost like a relaxing night-time tea blend.
I've never noticed it before.
I live in Michigan, so if that helps narrow it down...
The needles are a grayish purple color, and they are fairly soft.

Looks somewhat like white sage to me. It grows wild in my area. Try comparing it to those kinds of images online.

I thought it was sage too but then I looked at pictures and white sage is more leafy, whereas this mystery plant is needle-y
