I have Native blood in me but I was bought up a celt living in wales we too have suffered at the hands of the Saxons (English)they drowned one village not far from here because the English needed water.the people were forced out of their homes graveyards drowned coffins could be seen floating,it is only a few years ago we had an apology from the government for it, but like everything else it comes with a folklore.when the water is low you will hear the church bells ringing again, and the English will pay,
the celtic people are on a par to Native people the way of life is very similar or maybe its just me that thinks that because I was with my grandmother more than anyone and she remembered the old ways both in Arizona and here.

Don't forget that the Celts invaded Britain and then later the onslaught of the brutal Romans, who did far worse damage and wiped out the druids.

It makes me wonder why it took until 2008 to prick their collective conciences.. But why was the formal review and recommendations only publish a week ago.. 150 + years of abuse and some PR guru thought it would be good to publish the findings on the 150th aniversary... Its not something to celebrate its a disgrace.. The same thing happened in New Zealand and Australia..

There are so many traditions of aborginal culture between all thse Indigenous People, not just abuse and Genocide but from the cultural Spirtuality of them all.

This kind of stuff is still going on. Look how ISIS destroyed old ruins and art where they invaded. All in the name of their god. Look at how they murdered those who not follow their version of god. The Spanish did the same thing to the Mayan Culture when they invaded Mexico. In Now Times the internet preachers invade electronic forums and try to the same thing electronically.

Well having seen on youtube some of the things ISIS did to their capors, i'd say there is no comparison.

The aboriginal people were totally innocent, just following their path..

Isis are just a violent evil group who plunder, murder in the more cruel ways, who Rape the countries they encroach upon... and hopefully sooner or later, the world will rise up against them..

Don't get me started on ISIS or I may say something against forum rules...but, let's just say this group is well funded by a super power country...

There is an epidemic of suicide among the Aboriginal youth in Canada. The infant mortality rate on reserve land is double of the national average.

Aboriginal women go missing or found dead...the cases are ignored.

First Nations reserves are filled with poverty and the sickness that comes with it, and everything is white washed by the Harper government, but it's all done legally.
Canadians need to speak up about the conditions these folks are facing, but alas, even the federal minister of Aboriginal affairs hasn't got much to say, publicly.

The First Nations been hammered long ago. There are only fragments of their great cultures left today. Now it has become a racial and class issue. The haves vs. the have not. 500 years from now the mountains of the west will be like Afganistan. Populated by roving bands of Mad Max like extremeists.

I have to live every day with the impact that the Indian schools in Canada have had on my family, 3 members of which have no recorded graves we just know that they died as kids. The rest are broken and damaged in ways that are hard to comprehend. As for pay outs well nothing can pay for what happened or what was done.

Best to make sure it never happens again and to help each other to heal what we can and find the pathway back to what and who we are. So that the next generations stand a chance.

I think you never said a truer word...
all Reservation folk have pretty much the same problems and it breaks my heart every time I read or see this..

3 yrs ago I and a friend tried to give donated medical equipment to a rez in Montana, it was a small rez of only 2000. My friends live there on Lame Deer, Crow agency. We asked what they needed and it was books and stationary for the children and as there was a real need, we wanted to supply Blood sugar monitors and Blood pressure monitors.. The Elders told us that when they asked if it was ok for us to bring this supply for them, they were told if they accepted it, then the Indian Health Service funding would be cut.. So they had no choice but to decline..

They were so kind and apologetic to us. We were met by 6 of my friends family and 2 of the Elders from the rez. We were welcomed with such warmth, far beyond what we expected.. They came and sang to us played the flute for us too. I was told they regarded me as their sister, So my sister is 'Miriam Knows his gun', her son was instructed to call me aunty ..
I know I have friends for life.. And a young man is wearing a number 10 Manchester United shirt with his name on the back..
To this day we still raise money for the Rez. They said they were touched that people from across the big pond actually cared and helped.

Can anyone explain why this was done in the first place?
