I'm Morbidly Obese And Need To Improve My Health?

Myfitnesspal says that I should start out eating 2700 calories. Do you think this is too much for someone as obese as me? Also can you give me some advice on what to do to lose all this weight naturally?

Stats: 24 years old, female, 5'7", sedentary, 490 pounds, high body fat %,

Hi Spiritual Novice.

You need to see your doctor and he can put in place things that will help you we are not medically qualified and are not allowed to diagnose.

Namaste

This post sums it up for me: https://www.pcrm.org/nbBlog/end-the-...-cause-obesity

It's is written by a medical doctor called Neil Barnard (http://www.pcrm.org/media/experts/neal-barnard), who wrote several books on nutrition and weight loss. He also speaks (among several other medical doctors and nutritionists) in the "What the health" documentary that you can see online for 10 bucks. This documentary - which I highly recommend - explains why the message about the benefits of eating only whole and plant-based foods isn't yet reaching the general public.

I wish you the best (keep us posted of how you are doing),
Martin

I was 295 pounds in February 2002. I dropped to 165 pounds by March 2003. After 14 years I am still 165 pounds.

The "secret": 3500 calories = 1 pound of fat

If your intake of calories (food + drinks) minus your spent calories (basal metabolism + any additional moving) equals -100 calories / day, then in 35 days you'll weigh 1 pound less than now. It is that simple!

Everyday I work out ~30 minutes, and walk (not jog) another ~30 minutes, and I found out that an intake of ~2300-2400 calories will keep my weight constant. When I lost the 130 lb in ~ 13 months, I was intaking ~1400 calories / day, working out as I still work out these days. If you work out in the morning you'll raise your basal metabolism for several hours, if you work out in the evening you lose that because your metabolism slows down when you go to sleep.

You have to also be sure that you have a balanced diet, and get enough vitamins from food and supplements (pills).

To not feel hungry: drink enough water (flat water, nothing with any kind of sugar, nor fruit juice, nor artificial sweeteners) about half a gallon a day, and eat every couple of hours equal amounts of calories (if you eat 8 times a day, and target 1600 calories / day, that amounts to ~200 calories every 2 hours, like 2 bread slices with nothing on the, or like a medium large apple).

Remember: it doesn't matter what calories you eat for your weight! But if you eat healthy, you'll also be healthier, not only slimer!

Once you get used to counting calories, it will become a second nature for you. Also, weigh yourself every day about the same time of the day, and keep writing down what and how many calories you ate and drunk, to track and compare. You'll see how faithfully your weight tracks your calorie intake and spending balance! Another note: if you eat saltier food your body holds water, up to 2-3 pounds just for having some cheese. If next days you'll eat less salt you'll eliminate that water.

The book that taught me all of these, and I still use for my daily workouts (only light workouts of ~10-15 minutes with weights, plus 15-20 minutes warm up and stretches) is Jorge Cruise's "8 Minutes in the Morning" (over the years he authored more books on the same subject, to make more money, but the best one is still his first "8 Minutes in the Morning").

Good luck!

Hello! I would first and foremost discuss or consult your concerns/questions and goals with a professional health specialist, they will be able to to blood and tissue work to get you on the right path ...
That saying, my brother was once obese, and I swear he used every diet trick in the book, however, the one nutrition diet that worked for him and kept the weight off was the The ketogenic diet ( The Keto diet). It is similar to the atkins where it is very low carb, some would argue it's extreme for this very reason and you really have to monitor your diet intricately ( not recommended for people with Diabetes). My brother has such great success with this diet, now in his 40's, he the most healthiest and fit he has ever been in his life.

Again, talk to you doctor, there are various directions to take.

Forms health rule

P.S. Plain filtered Water does wonders, I always like to have a fresh quart around me as much as possible.
Best wishes on your healthy journey,
Cloves

Take the best of the (recent) best diets - or ways of eating, like the keto diet and the intermittent fasting. Look up "Butter Bob" on youtube, he's got lots of information about high fat/low carb dieting and the effect it all has on your insulin. I forget if you said you were diabetic but if you're not, you're on the road. I discovered I was diabetic several years ago. Wishing you well.

Thanks for the plug In Flux. The adage "Diets don't work" is only half-correct. They work and are a temporary fix. Whereas a permanent fix requires a change in lifestyle.

Whole vegetables and fruit, only. (No processed foods of any kind.)
Water, water and more water.
That's all that's required.
Everything one needs can be purchased in the produce section of your local grocery or grown in your garden.

Switch to that eating lifestyle (whole foods only, and organic if possible), and you will lose 8 lbs a month and be down to your natural weight in no time. After which the body, again, naturally settles on your ideal weight, and stays there. Exercise isn't required and neither are supplements. Although walks in nature are very good for you, physically and spiritually, and can (should IMO) be another component of that change in lifestyle commitment.

Hi there!

Weight issues is something I have struggled with a lot in my life, so I know where you are coming from. I am still on my weight loss journey.

My advice: Nothing wrong with Fitness Pal, but have you ever heard of Spark People? This is a site that has helped me so much. Plus, there are lots of free exercise routines, ongoing challenges, and things that actually make weight loss kind of fun. I use it all the time.

If you have any questions about what/how many calories to have, there are lots of message boards and people to ask for advice on there. But like the other posters say on here, their advice is true. It's always best to see a doctor or nutritionist first before starting out on your journey.

If you are ever interested or want an accountability buddy, we can exchange support. Feel free to send me an e-mail/private message on here.

It helps to understand that the struggle isn't with weight loss. The struggle is with food addiction. Switch to a whole food only lifestyle and it is impossible to be overweight. The body naturally and effortlessly sheds all excess weight until it finds its ideal plateau weight.

I said it requires a lifestyle change. That's the outer expression of intent. The inner expression is the shift in consciousness that also takes place. There's a psychological and soul aspect to this. If I know the problem isn't me --
inability to lose weight; inability to stay on a diet -- then I stop blaming myself. That's first and foremost given self-shaming is one of the reasons people overeat.

The "blame-focus" then correctly shifts to where it belongs: on those foods that cause weight gain. Once that happens, the individual has now gained control of the situation. Because again, feeling out of control in one's life causes psychological reactions that lead to certain negative behaviors like overeating.

If I'm in control, I can now call the shots. I experience this myself all the time, even six years after switching to my whole foods only lifestyle. Say I go into a coffee shop with a friend. They order a coffee and cinnamon bun. That bun looks delicious to me... for about 1/2 second. Then my "in control" self takes over and says, "No way. I'm not eating that. I'm BETTER than that bun. Being at my perfect weight is many times better than eating that thing."
