It is to abandon logic and reason and just be.

Ok...after I had my 'dream' last night I can now add to this;

To practice Tao - live close to nature, love your body, learn about the bounties of earth for healing such as herbs, purifying water, the natural magick of earth that can be learned and tapped into, live simply, live without philosophical thoughts, materialism and too many people. Surround yourself with like-minded 'simple' earthy folk.

Some of it yes, but Lao Tzu who wrote the Tao Te Ching which is the basic scripture for Taoism was in charge of the Emperor's Library service, IIRC.
As such he could not have been opposed to philosophical thoughts, and would have had contact with many 'lofty' people of many different views.

Philosophy is necessary until one has experienced Tao...then philosophy and intellectual understanding are no longer needed. When we become an Uncarved Block...or Winnie the Pooh...we just 'are' in the world perfectly without 'trying to understand or intellectualize it."

Anyways, it's not proven that Lao Tzu actually wrote the Tao Te Ching; he may have but there are other theories as to its inception...namely that a lot of different people wrote and added to it. We can't truly know this nor does it really matter.

What Tzu and Acer said appealed to me a lot.
(and I'm always laughing at the absurd~*)
I like that, too, windwhistle

Is the taking of the stone from the master's hand a Tao sort of thing or no?
(Was always a big Kung Fu / David Carradine fan)

Hmm.. Doesn't that defeat the purpose? The purpose we give it by doing those things, of course.

It's the tao. to not practice is the practice, if it was practiced it would not be the tao.

Ummm... whoever the hell is adding to it, the above should be verse 82.

To be is not to be... that is the question and not the question.

I do not ascribe to any religion, but I happened across Dr. Wayne Dyer's interpretation of the Tao Te Ching and it was the first reading I've found to resonate within me.
