Wow, long time since anybody responded to this thread.
I did happen to watch Gran Torino, finally about a week ago, and I really enjoyed it.
I also wanted to mention how much I enjoyed Michael J. Fox's acting in Back to the Future III doing a take-off on Clint in that movie - a lot of fun!

Agree, Gran Torino was magnificent-moving, and I loved Hereafter.
Yet I kinda also feel Eastwood may lack the sensitivity of some directors, as suggested.

I am surprised none mentions Black Heart White Hunter. It was an uneven but quite interesting movie. Racial problems was something I didn't expect him to lift up. Generally he is an unusual director in that he plays on strings, or tries to play on string, meant to move deeper into our hearts than the awwww factor. And he often lets painful things remain unresolved; Unforgiven is a good example of that.
I love him as a western actor, especially under Sergio Leones direction. The drily funny remarks suit him very well. As a quite mature actor he has continued with that. In The Line Of Fire is one of his more recent ones that I like. It also shows him being willing to let himself be made fun of, which never happened in the old movies.
