Feeling a calling?

I was able to get a new job a few months ago. Ever since I moved into my new home and took a new route to work, things have not felt very ordinary. It was subtle until a few months into the new job where everyday, as I passed a local church, my head would move on it's own and look on at a certain room. Unless I am in very deep thought when I pass by, this happens without any incident every time I pass. I could best describe the feeling as being pulled in by a vortex. I'm not sure whether or not to visit, as I'm not sure what to expect. I am not a religious man, and have not attended any kind of church since I was around ten years old. My parents continually drilled Christianity into my skull as if to leave an imprint so I would never forget. Since that has happened, I have not ever been very trusting of religion, so I am not sure what to expect here. Has this kind of thing happened to anybody else?

The truth of it is Rhapsody...Religion puts many people off God.

Try to ignore the 'Christian' element of it and just think of it as God calling you. It's not God (or Jesus's ) fault that so many teachings have been re-interpreted and quite frankly fabricated.

I too had Christianity (Catholicism) drummed into me as a child. I reached a certain age and thought what a LOAD of hypocritical rubbish...
I never lost my faith (in the fact) there was a God/Creator and now (through various significant spiritual experiences) I know there is...

I don't attend church service to pray, I pray at home alone. I enjoy going into a church and lighting a candle occasionally but I feel no need to centre my faith around it...or any religion.

This may be Gods way of getting your attention...Go with it..I think you may like what you find..

Yes. It seems to me that the holiness of some people can leave behind a sort of imprint in a building. I would say you're picking up on this. It can't do any harm to go in and have a look around. But don't be surprised if you don't find anything. The feeling you're getting might be your impetus to investigate your own spirituality further (rather than the building).

I say someone somewhere is sayign give it a shot. I'm not a religious person either but anytime a church grabs my attention I do go to a service usually once just to get the feel and see the church itself.

Just look around......I think it's the building itself that is making you curious.

The feeling you're getting might be your impetus to investigate your own spirituality further (rather than the building).

I'm thinking the same thing.
Especially since you mentioned "I was able to get a new job."

By what means were you able to get this job? Did it seem to come out of the blue?

Rhapsody... If it were me I would at least check it out.

It could be an opportunity to heal your religious drilling so you are free to go ahead in whatever spiritual path you prefer now.

Thank you for all the replies. I did not think of it in any one way; both abstract ideas are things to consider. The new job did come out of the blue, suddenly my one friend told me that they needed a manager where she worked. I applied, and apparently I was the only person that applied. I'm not sure why, especially with the way things are around here and in general in the job and economical aspects, but that's just how it turned out. I didn't really think that it was a blessing, I just thought it happened, and I'm even more compelled to think against the blessing idea because I really do not like the job. It pays, but it's something that is putting me under a lot of stress that I otherwise would not have to deal with. This is probably a stupid question, but are churches typically open on days where there is no mass (for open prayer)?

Its not a stupid question at all and yes, I have had and actually am going through something not so different myself. I was raised with Catholicism shoved down my neck and it really turned me away from God. I found myself angry and looking to every "Other" religion out there...and I mean I read about all of them looking for "something" even though I didnt know what "something" was. I think more than anything I wanted to just feel like I fit somewhere.

I dont believe in coincidence so I truly do believe that your new job took you on a new path that would allow you to find more personal truth. You have been made aware and that is a huge step to begin with. I have to agree with the others that going to the church might be a wise choice. No one is asking you to join but perhaps there is something there that you must see,feel or touch in order to continue opening you up on your journey. Most churches are open during the day. Catholic churches usually stay open for those who come to do the stations of the cross or pray the rosary. If the church is not Catholic they usually will have an office that will allow you to use the chapel. If it were me I would be sprinting to the church to find what is meant for me!! How exciting!!
