Desecration of a Sacred Place

Hello. I am a Druid, and a believer in spirits of nature. I communicate with them, spend time with them. However you would like to see it. I do this in my grove. It is a place that is deeply precious to me, and I spend a lot of time out there. I take care of it and do whatever I can to help it flourish. It's like I know each plant and bird personally, on some level.

However, I wasn't able to go outside to tend to it for quite some time, due to an injury.

Now, I was able to go there for the first time. What I found was my grove in peril. Plants had been trampled into local extinction, trees that were at least a decade old had been cut down without a word for simply being in the way, bird nests had been "relocated", plants were killed for being too close to our garage. Still more, but to keep things concise I will stop here.

Upon voicing my concerns to those I share my dwelling with, nobody cares.

I will live. But I can't help but feel a sense of desecration that isn't valid to anyone else.

Lives have ended. Babies have been orphaned. Nobody else seems to realize.

To some, a Chapel, a Mosque, or any other significant building may be a place of worship. Desecrating these places by destroying things or damaging the property is viewed as a pointlessly heinous act, as this is a special place to a lot of people. Doing so upsets the people who go there, and may in fact upset the gods to which they are dedicated, as well.

It seems that the defamation scales with how many people hold the place dear. What merit does the place of one person have?

Apparently, none.

From Druid (Wiki) I gather they are "a member of the educated, professional class among the Celtic peoples..." and that the "pair Dadeni" or Cauldron of Rebirth figured in the re-incarnation of slain warriors albeit 'mute'.

Perhaps 'Loss' figures into your path at this time.

Wow, this post is beautiful. Very touching. I also feel a connection to these Earth 'spirits', though it is a lot different than many would think it is.

Through plants, or animals, there are messages. From time to time I walk around my community (which is very full of trees), and through this I feel them near. Mostly during the sunshine when bugs fly directly by, it's the spirits that they are connected to. As well as this, when I sit outside amongst the plants I am at peace with everything. From here, there is a connection beyond words that is like being apart of one massive creation we call life.

I've seen this through what many call the 'third-eye', though it is also not as some do think. It is a part in the brain that connects us to the awareness that is the universe. Through this, we 'see' things which is a lot more like a sensing of things which requires one to take care of their brain and body (through good eating, lots of water and greens). It took many years to get to this state, even watching which toothpaste I buy since the fluoride affects my abilities.

Apart from this, I find nature to be the greatest teacher of all. It tells us that everything depends on everything else. It is a giver and taker of all life, and through its seasons it teaches us change. I owe my life to it, and someday I will return into the ground as many plants and animals do.

It's the beauty I see all around me which makes me so passionate about our planet, though it does shame me to read that there is pain within you about what happened at your place. If you'd like to discuss anything I'm free to listen (just message or reply). Thanks for your thread, it served well as a thought provoking post.

I was bought up to respect mother earth to give thanks for all it gives us only take whats needed, the earth is sacred to us all. there are parts that are even more sacred to all , but other don't care they trample they cut down they burn they think the earth is theirs to do with as they like.they are ignorant.and they are frightened of what belongs to another. you get people like this in all walks of life.they have no respect.

Namaste

I am so sorry. For you and or those you love and guard with reverence.

Today I walked behind two teenage boys. They threw rubbish on the earth. I didn't accost them, I just picked it up and carried it a quarter mile to put it in a rubbish bin. Maybe I should have accosted them? For not respecting what they don't even know yet?

The best you can do is re-build, never let go of love for the things you hold dear, and continue to nurture those things you love.

Sometimes 'our territory' overlaps others' territory -so these things happen to those places we respect deeply.
Trees were torn down -beautiful red cedars -in a remote part of woodland which means so much to me, and in which I spent some of the happiest days of my life. Trees torn down, wrecked and ruined by "forest management" (If only they knew what lovely things were there -but they don't) They operate by different criteria.

I still go there. I reconstruct those beautiful trees in my mind. I bless the place as I remember it -in shafts of sunlight and dust in May, or in blizzards in December twilight. It will always be a sacred place to me.

I live in the middle of 3 National Parks and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty [ Geo-Park ] plus a National Heritage Coast. In my mind, my entire area is Sacred Space which I have roamed for almost 50 years. Within this area, I do have a "special" place of my own, significant for all manner of reasons. It is my "temple" and my "altar" [a flat rock beside a waterfall in the temple ] .This Special Place is sacred because it "spoke" to me and I consecrated it. Anyone can do this by finding somewhere special and making your own vow to protect it - make your vow to whatever deity you follow [ Gaia in my case ] I do admit that I am spoilt for choice !

I'm sorry to hear about that, dear Quiet.

When you think about it, everywhere is sacred. You are sacred!

Wherever 'you' bring your peace, your kindness, your love - that place becomes a sanctuary.
Reclaim your special place, re-consecrate it with the love and light of your spirit.

I feel as though I'm intruding ....

I can see why it appeals though. Beautiful.

Quite magical with the rock ledges. It looks like forces unseen have fashioned them.

Hi KoA ! My Spirit Guide is a Water Spirit and this is Her river, so it really is a "sacred" place. I keep a supply of water, taken at the waterfall, at home and drink a glass daily to renew our "relationship".
Magical place ? - absolutely. The upper reaches of the Yorkshire Dales.
