The sage won't hurt. If it is negative it will drive it away. If it is positive it won't harm the spirit. And if it makes you feel better, do it.
Maybe you can do it with your son, explaining the procedure as you go through the cleansing. Explaining this will only drive away bad people. Start that path together.

If it is your father (I would've thought your son would recognise him too though) then it would be a good thing to talk to him and tell him that he can move on. Often spirits linger because they see the people they love mourning and they don't want to leave them alone. So encouraging him that you'll be okay and that you'll heal will be a good thing. Send love to both him and yourself and of course your whole family. Raising your vibration would still be a good idea because it'll help the sadness pass easier and it'll make your dad see that you're all doing okay. And pray that he'll see the light so he can move on, that's really important.

I hoped it would be him also but I don't think it is otherwise he would recognise him.. Maybe my father isn't able to fully materialise as its too soon??? Or as you said could be a past relative ??? I'm hopefull ... I have purchased some white sage ...do you just walk around the home and into the rooms blowing it as it burns , and asking for all negative energy to leave peacefully x

Allot of people see these people especially as children, its because as a kid you're mind is more subconscious so you are aware more of certain things. I never thought these people here so common until i stumbled across a movie trailer promoting a movie about them and..? when i came on this site.
