Introducing myself
Greetings to all:
I stumbled upon Spiritual Forums by asking a philosophical question in a Google box.
I am now an 88 year old geezer who emigrated from England in 1948 with a wife and 2 year old son. Having been raised in the LDS church, we settled in Salt Lake City and I was an active church member until I realized that LDS doctrine was not compatible with scientific evidence.
My education was interrupted by the war, and after several years of part-time college study I received a ** in physics from LA State College in 1968. My career has been in chemistry and electronics. I was very fortunate to have a wonderful job for 24 years at the California Institute of Technology, where I was an electronics engineer in a graduate laser research lab.
In 1989 I retired from Caltech and moved out of the smog to Jacksonville, Oregon.
Philosophically I stopped being a believer, realizing that anything we are asked to believe is ultimately the word of someone who is accepted as an authority, and authorities do not always agree with one another. I credit the Rosicrucian Order with having influenced my point of view in the right direction.

Well, you can come back now, the smog is finally gone (mostly). I was seeing a film someone made on the internet about 1977 and couldn't get over the smog layer. I was just telling my kids the other day that when I was a kid, I couldn't see that mountain with the snow on it and the one next to it all green. I live in the OC, but whatever has been happening her the last 20 years or so has made a tremendous difference to the air quality. It is really amazing.
My stepdad was a Rosecrutian, after the Catholic church kicked him out for getting divorced (from his first wife). They may have kicked him out of God's house, but they didn't take away the God inside him....
