I believe people should talk openly about what their individual needs are and meet in the middle.

That may not happen though.

It is not an easy path being placed into a situation of celibacy . Yet there is a lot one can learn about them self if they choose too.

I think learning that both people must change, as a natural force. It always changes, and as long as both of you develop together you will continuously cycle through the hard times and reincarnate together (in this single life) into the next cycle of great times.

The idea of a functional relationship is one that changes easily and flows, where both people lean against each other as they grow, supporting and moving together.

If this is there, then changes will match and each individual will feel in ways related to their partner and libido will be a natural result of that.
