Day and night
The ascendant in astrology is the point in your zodiac where the sun rises. That's how the first six houses are your day-houses.
The descendant is the point where your sun sets - or the "sundown" as they say in Africa, and the following six houses are your night-houses.
You can look at your chart to find out if you are a day- or night-person, or maybe you are both, or maybe it changes as the star, planets and other objects and points moves around in the sky?
You might have observed that certain periods of your life, you like to be awake during the quiet nights and sleep during day, while other periods you like to rise and shine in the morning and go to bed early. These cycles might come from the moving objects of the sky. (I write might because I haven't researched this particular field yet).
As I wrote in another thread, the ascendant could have the tag "hurry", while the descendant have the tag "patience". This goes for all six houses during the Asc-periode or the six houses in the Dsc-periode.
It means you need to hurry with the objects you have in house 1 to 6, while you need to be patient with the objects you have in the houses 7 to 12.
I think it's very important to look at your Pars Fortune. It's known for being your "point of happiness", and to know if it's in houses 1 to 6 (day-houses) or in the houses 7 to 12 (night-houses) could determine if you are most happy being awake at day or night.
Another way to look at it, is that houses 1 to 6 are the sun-houses. It means they are connected to words like "shining", "me" and "personality", while the houses 7 to 12 are the moon-houses and are connected to words like "reflecting", "us", and "un-conscious".
