killing wildlife

Where I'm living, they're talking about culling deer, as people don't like them eating their flowers. Awhile back it was rabbitts, and weekly we hear that a cougar or bear was shot. It makes me sad.

It is the warped Old Testament thinking again I'm afraid. i.e. that we are lord and master of all we survey and we are entitled to do whatever we please to the planet and Creation.

It's that sort of corrupt mindset that has got us into our current precarious environmental position, not to mention all the bloodshed and suffering it has caused.

Those creatures have got as much right to be there as anybody else!

Reverence for all Creation! There is room for us all.

Sustainable hunting is fine.

And there is no such thing as ''room for us all'' - too many deer without predators will do no good to certain flora.

I don't engage in arguing with people, as it can become bitter and negative, so I won't comment much on Chrysaetos' post above. Suffice it to say that I agree wholeheartedly with the Noble Knight and Glenos. The only comment I will make on Chrysaetos' post is that no-one culls humans!

As to the original poster: it is abhorrent to me to eat meat and other animal products, but as for killing animals just because they eat flowers...Words fail me. I share your sadness.

I don't see anything bitter or negative about hunting. Poaching and pleasure-hunting yes. We have greatly reduced the number of other predators, so there's no shame in hunting some grazers down in order to sustain biodiversity. It's also environmentally-friendly meat so what more could we ask for?

Right, so you just throw in personal insults and decide not to discuss the matter at hand. That's twice now on the same page.

as unpleasant as it is Chrysaetos is correct. we fear filled and shortsighted humans have dispatched natural predators like wolves, cougars and coyotes that once kept the grazer herds in check, which leaves only us predatory humans to do the culling.

PS. and before i get accused of being blind ... i perform wild animal rehab and love my injured and/or orphaned wildlings more than i do most people.
