I know because I look and feel different. I lost weight without working out or anything like that. My health problems have disappeared and i just feel lighter.

Possibly when you can openly talk about your wounds without it effecting you in one bit.

These topics come up a great deal in the Spiritual Development or Healing section. Do you journal? Sometimes it is helpful to write on an experience that has caused you pain, perhaps, a story from your past or child hood that resurfaces uncomfortable emotions when you think about the past experience. Take time to really Think on how it made you feel, write those feelings down, cry and let it out if you have to, whatever it is that is suppressing or holding you back from loving and accepting yourself completely. Write it down and see what emotions are provoked so you can recognize, heal and transmute those feelings.

One way I think you know is when your "numbing out" and avoiding behaviors just fall away. This shows that your emotions around your wounds are able to come up to the surface, be experienced, and they start passing through you without getting stuck.
I wasn't aware of surpressing my wounds because I was always such an upbeat and optimistic person. I thought I was free of darker emotions. But I was chasing after joy, or adrenalin, external validation, new content for my mind to immerse it self in, new hobbies etc. I seemed well functioning on the outside because my productivity was high.
Now I welcome the moments went both the dark emotions rise up along with the connected and joyful ones.
But again, my numbing out behaviors have fallen away and I've been more connected to my physical self in the present moment and this feels like real healing.

It's very easy. If you heal a wound then nothing triggers it anymore. And you'll notice things that used to trigger it while you had the wound don't anymore. But if it's been buried Then it can still be triggered. The method of How It's triggered might change or the way the wound expresses outwardly in your life might change but you can still tangibly feel the energy of that specific hurt being present still. When you notice certain triggers aren't working anymore often times instead of a negative reaction you might actually even get a very peaceful sense of well-being when a situation comes up and a disengaged trigger no longer works

Quite honestly, only you can answer this question. You have to contemplate on the whole situation, try to detect if you feel anger, hurt, anguish, etc and try to reckon with it. Sometimes rationalising brings an honest, realistic view of a problem like this, the hardest part being honesty. If you still feel angry or hurt, you're probably suppressing something. If you walk out into the sunlight and silently shout (!) I'm free! then your wounds are healing. Learn a lesson from your past. Cherish memories dear to you but know that you are now moving on.
