That is very interesting.

I've frequently thought the same thing, that the cows (poor things) are passing on to animals in the wild.
It is universally acknowledged that cattle-to-cattle transmission is by far the main cause of the spread of bovine TB.

Apparently the cull folded because the farmers had to pay and would not fork out the cash PLUS the threat from militant animal welfare activists.

This cull must be opposed. There is no considered evidence for it. It is another "belief" from politicians driven on by the NFU lobby. Perhaps farmers should stop filling their cattle with every antibiotic known to the Animal Pharmaceutical industry - another powerful lobby !
More power to the activists !

I hope reason, sense and justice will prevail...

Failing that remember the Conservatives and the Lib Dems next election. And stop buying milk & dairy products!

It's an outrage.

It's a scaremongering issue. It will change the natural landscape and the implications are huge.

To say nothing for the poor badgers and their families which will be devastated by this action.

The skin test they use for TB detection can be as low as 80% accurate. In plain English it means TB infected cows can be passed 'clear' and returned to the herd to infect other cows...
This, together with bad husbandry, is the weak spot in the fight against bovine TB, not the poor badger.

We should all take note that this govt. which has begun the cull of the badgers is also considering repealing the ban on fox hunting. This points to a certain mind-set and the existence of powerful lobbies behind the govt.
We should all remember this in 2015.
