1 John 4
On Denying the Incarnation
1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

Has anyone tried this and more importantly does it work?

The only way you'll be able to vet any spirits is if you have a bead on your own divinity so that you have something to compare to. If you don't know divinity, then you won't know when you're looking at a sheep, or a wolf in sheep's clothing, or perhaps even you will think you see a wolf when its really a lamb.

Beliefs are just beleifs unless they can be verified to be true. You can beleive anything you want to but if it cannot be verified to be true then it does not help you in anyway because you cannot perceive it to be true. Truth can help you to change your life for better. Beleifs do not help you. Beleifs just give a false support to the mind. You need to search for the Truth. Truth can set you free.

It sounds like the attitude that fundamentalists have about religion. They know they're right, and anyone who disagrees with them is wrong. This is pretty simple-minded stuff, I wouldn't take it too seriously. The ego wants to be right all the time and 'know' it has the truth. That's immature and dysfunctional. Not to mention dishonest.

Instead, I would just trust your own judgement and listen to yourself. If you listen, your spirit (and also your body) will give you an indication of what's right and wrong.

In these verses the name Jesus has been added, so it should read instead of the name Jesus, Christ. Now when you realize the Christ is our true inner Being, not just belonging to a man who supposedly lived over two thousand years ago, you then will understand these verses much better, or how they were meant to be taken by the one who is mature in spirit. Those who now live in the realization of their true being are no longer of the world, those who don't understand this are living in the world from the sweat of their brow.
