Hello Baraka ryoba!

Your question invites several possible responses from kindergarten to phd and beyond!

Meditation is simply effortless awareness with lower mind rested (thoughts rested), wherein we internalise our attention to connect with our own divinity within.

How do we do this? Simply by flicking away anything that interferes with our stillness continuum where we are tranquil with attention peaked, poised and yet unexpectant in an orientation of childlike wonder!

Yes, there are multiple levels of meditation though some might say that the "entry levels" are not really meditation.

Usually the first practice is to do deep controlled breathing. Breathe in slowly and exhale slowly and do it three times.

People use this as a calming mechanism to deal with stress but it can be used as a way of simple meditation to settle your mind.

Hope that helps!
