Dakshinamurti Stotram

Namaste.

I just found a new book to study and I am literally, jumping up and down - having a total intellectual braingasm here.

It's called the Dakshinamurthi Stotram and here's just one chapter of it:
http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/dast/dast13.htm

I read all that chapter and I'm in total ecstasy....can't wait to read the whole thing now.

Added to that, I found some great poems from the Tamil Shaivite saints:

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/htss/htss03.htm

His ears are beringed, He rideth the bull;
His head is adorned with the crescent moon's ray;
White is He with ash from the burning-ground swept;
And He is the thief who my heart steals away.
Great Brahmā enthroned on the lotus’ full bloom;
Erstwhile bowed him down and His glory extolled;
And singing received he the grace of our lore;
Who dwelleth in famèd Bramāpuram old.

So beautiful...so just gosh darn beautiful!!!

Here is the site for all of the old Hindu books written in the 1800's and early 1900's:

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/index.htm

This is amazing and awesome for me! It's like a treasure trove and an Alladdin's cave full of all sorts of wonderful things...I am totally distracted...

Oh look, there's even a section on Tantra:
http://www.sacred-texts.com/tantra/index.htm

...but getting back to the Dakshinamurti Stotram:

Quote:
6. By contemplating Mahesvara (dwelling) in the microcosm (vyashti), the devotee will become co-extensive with the macrocosm. This the Sruti has declared ten times in the words "he unites with Atman."

Having first enumerated the five kosas (sheaths) of the individual, the Taittiriya-Upanishad (2–8) declares five times that the devotee attains unity with Brahman, dwelling in the anandamaya kosa as the basis of all, in the words " He unites with annamaya Atman; he unites with pranamaya Atman; he unites with manomaya Atman; he unites with vijnanamaya Atman; he unites with anandamaya Atman." Again, later on, the Upanishad speaks of the five kosas in the macrocosm, and at the end (3–10) declares five times, as shown above, that the devotee attains unity with Brahman.

Explains a lot! explains a hell of a lot!!

Aum Namah Shivaya

I'm still feeling what was felt when that poem was first written. I've been crying non-stop since I read it.

You can see what He does to me...if you can truly understand all the above, you'll know Him like I do.

Now I understand...

Now I am home...

High-Five, Nec!

I may not be as reincarnationally 'rooted', at least I am not consciously so, in that branch of Life as you, but certainly feel/think that have 'osmosed' a great deal of it, having been born and raised in what is called Tamil Nadu (Nadu = 'Nation'). Spoke Tamil as well as English (my mother was British).

Am 'thrilled' by the degree of your (re)connection!

Namaste

I am the direct disciple of the One who faces south. My love for Him is boundless as the infinite ocean. One look from His eyes conveys the wisdom of eternity. I remember now...I remember.

Now I know the reason why I fell unconscious looking at His image as a child; screamed His praises until my voice left me yet understood a language that no pen had ever written. I died at His feet...I remember.

Thoughts, beliefs and feelings have all crystallised in this moment, A lesson of love from my Adiguru. I faced north towards You and was showered with Your benevolence.

It has been a long time coming, but now I fully understand...the whole movement of this branch of Shaivism from Tamil Nadu to Bali, Indonesia and why I felt such a strong connection in Bali.

This has been with me now for many lifetimes, going back to the original Tamilakam Siddhars...even before that...to the Sanatkumaras.

I am also thrilled to see your connection to this and I am unable to speak Tamil, but the other day I found myself reading the language (I cannot now though). It's still amazing that you're also relating to this.

Here is something you may find very interesting - I found it practically mind-blowing.

Learning Indo-Aryan languages was pretty easy for me once I had learned the Brahmi Script, but Dravidian languages still eluded me.

Here is the Brahmi Script:

Here is the evolution of the Tamil Script from Brahmi:

Here is the Pallava Script from Brahmi:

Yeah, see the pattern forming? Pretty nifty eh?

Here is the development of Sanskrit (Nagari) from the Brahmi Script with other languages at the time for comparison:

Not to mention the ancient Javanese Script which made Sanskrit a cakewalk for me:

Oh yeah and not to be outdone, here is the Phags Pa script created by Kublai Khan - which for some strange reason, I can read:

http://www.omniglot.com/images/writing/phagspa.gif

So, mind blown yet? lol

Anyway, back on topic about how totally amazing Shiva is.

Namaste.

This keeps going from weird to even weirder.

I went into meditation last night, trying to quell the raging goddess within.

So, I sat in padmasana, assumed chinmudra and focused on Satguru, Dakshinamurthy in total silence and I allowed myself to slip into the silence of Brahman.

What happened next, was I saw myself sitting in meditation on the beach and all these people started coming up and prostrating before me.

I was like "woah...no!...don't do this!...get up!...go away!...pee off!..."
They said; "but you are Shiva! you are God! we can see it".
To which I said; "yeah, I am Shiva, so are YOU, what's the big deal?
They said; "we are not Shiva, you are Shiva!"
I said; "If you are not Shiva, how would you know that I am?"
They said; "touch us, heal us, reach us inside..."
I touched each one of them, only to have them all convulsing in epileptic shakti seizures all over the beach...I snapped out of my meditation.

After that, tears were pouring down and all I could say was "Aham Brahmasmi" for the next few hours, that's all that was known as I surfed on the waves of bliss.

I woke up today pretty much still out of it, but I'm getting back into my 'normal routine mode' which is kinda lacklustre and my spine feels like molten lava once again.
