Meditation Inspiration

This is a place for inspiring words, poetic or otherwise, quotations or your own, for going within... commonly called "meditation."

Make the world small and luminous
I call this "concentration"
Make space for the unlimited awareness
I call this "expansion"
Both make up loose meditation.
The "way" is undistracted loose meditation.

Meditation is turning your attention to the Silence -
the stillness before life is born - and resting there.
Silence lies between your thoughts and all around them,
like the surrounding open sky.

Do not try to become anything.
Do not make yourself into anything.
Do not be a meditator.
Do not become enlightened.
When you sit, let it be.
What you walk, let it be.
Grasp at nothing.
Resist nothing.

samadhi comes when one silence all the modifictions. samadhi is not a state that u reach. It is your own true state. When one attune to silence, resolve all tendencies, modifications, and the mind is free from all these disturbances, it becomes no mind. that no mind has the power to reflect the pure consciousness, When nothing obstruct that is your meditative stage.

What is that people achieve by meditation? I've tried meditation before but it did not help me gain peace of mind.. I probably don't know the right way to do it.

utopiadream... This particular thread is not for discussion about what meditation is, but there are others. In fact, after you've been here a little while you could start one of your own with this question.

This is a good introductory article: http://www.healthandyoga.com/html/meditation.html

Also, here's a simple meditation practice and description that may help you.

Don't you worry. You speak freely and ask as you will.

These flowery quotations are only for poetic expression. they aren't realistic or practical, and are not meant to be taken literally, so don't read too much into them.

People make a lot of promises about what meditation achieves and it tempts people and raises their expectations and people begin to desire the wonderful promise made, and oh no, that's all going the wrong way.

If a person has great expectations and desries the promise made, how can they have a peaceful mind when the mind is chasing the the desired promise?

These poetic gestures are merely for sentimental value, and what people promise is designed to tempt you, and these are only a hinderance to peace of mind.

when I meditate, I usually spend time reading my Bible and pray. I do this early morning when the world is still asleep....I meditate on God's goodness and the gift of life that He has given me. I love counting my blessings..and whenever I have anxiety attacks (this is part of my MVP syndrome), I say a prayer and rebuke whatever negative feelings that I have at the moment. It really helps and aside from that, I play my Sound of Nature CD (with the sound of the everglades, birds and rainforest) and it helps soothes my mind and gives me a relaxing feeling

Try to be the Buddha;
There is NO Buddha

I think it means to stop trying so hard. Kinda like your post that said "Don't try to be enlightened."
