I don't play now, but as a child I could play the recorder, the tenor recorder (similar to a clarinette in size) and then an electronic double keyboard with all the pedals at the bottom.
Gawd knows how I did it, thinking about it now, I can't even read music anymore, let alone play anything complicated like that.
I would really love to play a harp too Daisy - they make such a beautiful sound. I'd settle for learning an accoustic guitar though....

hey jaycee,
because you already have a musical background, im sure you could learn to play acoustic guitar. learn a few basic cords, and the rest will come with practice. there is a great feeling of personal expression in making music.
at the moment im trying to make the switch from electric to acoustic, but im having a bit of trouble (im so used to gain and other electronic affects). there is beautiful music an acoustic guitar can produce, that an electric just cannot match (not knocking the electric though, i loooove the electric guitar).
any tips anyone...??

My son plays guitar and it always amazed me watching him. He'd just listen to songs he liked and figured out how to play them himself. He'd play everything from rock to blues to classical to flamenco. Musicians have always amazed me though......they make music out of thin air!
The only things I play are percussion type things because I used to (retired) dance professionally. I play the castanets (Flamenco dance) and zills - 4 brass finger cymbols (Belly dance). These are small things worn on the fingers and yet they can be heard 4 blocks away! Tons of fun and they sound great too.

I say just pick it up and start playing. I suggest treating it the same as an electric guitar until you get the hang of it, then you can start to relinquish in the style of classical or flamenco, or whatever you want to play.
Personally, I don't really choose to build up my strengths on one instrument, I prefer to be balanced on both electric and acoustic. Idonno, I guess I just treat a guitar as a guitar, no matter what the difference is.
Do you like Jimmy Page Blair2Be? I think he is one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived. He inspires me.

i know what you mean, enlightener. im tryin to make a transition from rock (among others) to somthing lighter (acoustic blues, reggea, some hippie type stuff).
my fingers still want to play hard. i suppose your right though, it'll come, in time.
i listened to jimmy page as a child (through my father) but i cant pull a memory from my brain. ill let you know, if i can remember...
i would like a balance of both electric and acoustic. thats what im after now!
my wife bought me a beautiful acoustic guitar with a great sound!!
