Yup, and here are my data points in support of that idea.

1 - Many years back I shared a memory with my mother from my family's summer camp on a lake in the mountains. It was midnight and back in those days radio stations went off the air at midnight and played a 'going of the air' song or tune. What I remember is dad was sitting on one side of the kitchen table and mom on the other, cradling me in her arms. I was wailing up a storm and it was something about the signoff music coming forth from the radio. I remember it so clearly and from a third-person perspective. I was witnessing the scene from somewhere slightly behind and over my mom, detached from the mind and emotions of my crying body, mom trying to comfort me and dad quietly chuckling.

Mom was taken aback, and after a moment of silence and look of disbelief told me I couldn't possibly remember because I was just four or five months old.

2 - That same dispassionate state of observation is identical to deep meditation.

3 - When I pay close attention outside meditation it's the same state of being.

4 - For several weeks late last year it was a constant state of being.

When I think back on all this that state of being is always there, deep down. Sometimes I'm more aware of it than others, but even when I'm not paying close attention it's still there. There's not a fraction of doubt in my mind that's my true Self. In fact it's the only Self. Everyone's Self.
