I know of many places that have 4 levels of Reiki, which is fine I suppose. Traditionally Dr. Usui only had 3 levels and I can't help but be skeptical of those who teach 4 levels, especially when the price of level 3 and 4 are quite substantial. The Canadian Reiki Association (I'm Canadian) for example charges their members certain amounts of money to be registered as certain levels of reiki. They charge for level 1, level 2, "practitioner" and "teacher". Imo, all levels of reiki are practitioners (with various levels of experience and knowledge) and I don't agree with the amounts of money they charge just to be certified/registered by them, and that they differentiate the "practitioner" and "teacher" - but that's just how my reiki lineage speaks to me.

I'm curious, what is the expressed purpose of the association for having a 4 level system? I wonder why they diverted from traditional Usui.
