Were there originally 15 commandments?

Thought this would be the place to ask.

According to Mel Brooks, there were originally 15 commandments. Every other source claims 10.

Of course it is to be noted that these 10 are referred to in Hebrew as 'Eser Dibrot' meaning either 'ten statements' or 'ten things' and not 'ten commandments'. In actuality there are 613 commandments given to the people of Israel by God through Moses, written throughout the Torah. The ten given at Mount Sinai can be considered to be 10 general categories wherein most of the remaining 603 fit.

One story that I have heard is that Moses was first given the Qubalah , or tree of life , when he saw them making the golden calf he broke the quablah and gave his people the 10 commandments .

Only if you're a Jew (and even then, only a long time ago).

I don't think there were originally any commandments.
Along the way, some people made some commandments up.

I am pretty much going to have to stick with the idea that some people just made the stuff up.
