"Out-worn heart, in a time out-worn,
Come clear of the nets of wrong and right;
Laugh heart again in the gray twilight,
Sigh, heart, again in the dew of the morn."

"Do something your future self will thank you for" - Sean Patrick Flannery
I've started saying this to myself, "Do something my future self will thank me for", in the moment, not just for goals and ambitions. It helps me to resist impulsive behavior and emotional overwhelm, and make more self-loving decisions, even when it feels a little embarrassing. I'm surprised by how much it lets me feel at ease with things that previously embarrassed and overwhelmed me, because I felt self-conscious or awkward, I now just automatically see them as a part of life, or a cost of doing what is right for me, and bypass most or all of the stress. But, it doesn't always work, only in some situations.
In one way, it's living in the future, but actually it's taking me away from the endlessly delayed "one day", like "One day I'll learn how to avoid being judged/misunderstood", etc (so I try not to be judged now, even though it seldom works). Instead, I just accept being myself. Doing what is comfortable and focusing on my own needs and feelings (rather than others' reactions or behavior) makes me feel better in the future, and in the moment too. I do this all day in many situations, and I'm finding it is triggering all kinds of creative escapist ideas and positive thoughts, because those are things I know will make me feel better in the future, if I do them now.
