Tangent alert!
I wonder about this. Do you think the wave actually collapses, or does the observer just observe a particle? One possible observation contained in the superposition of many within the wave. A wave that unbeknownst to that observer remains, with all of those superimposed possibilities still intact.
Analogous to how the electromagnetic waves of a TV broadcast signal do not collapse upon reaching the receiver, at least not for everyone. Yet the TV displays pixels on the screen and builds up a representation of a reality based on the information encoded within those waves. Those electromagnetic waves can encode many signals, many different TV shows. It is the resonance of the TV receiver that decides which of those many superimposed stories it will display on the TV set as its chosen picture of reality to become engrossed in.
