What are the tell tale signs you have a past life?

How does one know they have had a past life? Are there certain indicators that point to a past life? How did you know you had a past life?

I fear I’m about as much in the dark as you both are, on this. Although it is something I am tentatively curious about.
　
I have started having bizarre “flashbacks” (the best I can describe them) since encountering a certain man who has also spurred on a long and ongoing succession of other very spiritual experiences in my life. These “flashbacks” are extremely vivid (involving all of my senses as well as emotions…things that are not of me but are strangely/vaguely familiar, particularly when put into the context of these "flashbacks").

What is odd is that I am a man in these flashbacks (I am a female in this life). I am in a man’s body going about daily life. The flashbacks primarily involve the man who spurred on these other spiritual experiences, although other people whom I don‘t recognize often make appearances in them.
　
I have been able to verify a few things from some of these flashbacks that I didn’t know at the time I had them (such as certain buildings seen in the flashbacks, etc.). So I am led to believe there is some basis of reality/truth to them.
　
I do not understand much of this and it causes me a lot of grief, at times. These are not all particularly pleasant things in these flashbacks. This is very isolating for me as I cannot talk about the details with anyone as they are too private and involve another living person.
　
I have tried to de-bunk it, study it, consider various possibilities, etc. etc. But the only thing that seems to “fit,” thus far, is: past life memories. I never believed in past lives or anything such as that, before. Now…I’m not so sure.

I, too, am very interested in others' thoughts and experiences on this topic, in general.

Genually it's a feeling that you get from a young age that carries with you. I grew up Babtist but believed in reincarnation and still do. I meditated and thought about what my past lives might have been like, and many of them have come through in dreams. Some of them I knew I had since I was a child, like my recent life in England, and my most previous life in New York, living as a single woman in an appartment. When you are young, your mind is fresh and can remember these lives more easily. And later they are usually confirmed. I've had more past lives that just these two, but the most recent once were the most prevalent. There is also past life regression if you are intereseted.

For example of some of the memory blead throughs, when I was little, I was just looking at the ceiling when suddenly the shadows of the tree outside dancing across my ceiling became a window into a previous life in England. Suddenly I saw two ladies sitting at a park bench chatting, wearing elegant but 19th century style dresses. Usually it's a gut feeling when you see a place and something about it seems familiar. When I do mediate or go into trance states, and then later drive around, I start having flashbacks of my previous lives when something strikes me as familiar (red brick fences always do that to me, they remind me of England for some reason).

What's the best indicator of a past life? You exist!

If you exist you will ALWAYS exist and if you are experiencing a physical life now then most likely you will have past lives, future lives, sideways lives and everything in between.

I have had "flashes" of other lives and experienced the entirety of that life in an instant but I have always strongly felt that the most important thing is THIS life. Sometimes information can come through from another life to help you in this one but it is important to keep focused on the here and now without getting too distracted with other lives.

Just my thoughts, hope they help in some way.

I just started getting flashbacks of past lives from a really young age and then when I was old enough I researched all the facts and found out most (well, the facts that I could find) were correct.

So I assume that memories coupled with physical/historical proof would definitely point to or affirm a past life.

Other than that I suppose simply "knowing" certain skills, like a talent, and feeling like you've done it so many times before would be an indication.

Also meeting other people who have the same historical interests as you who you swear you have already met but cant remember when is another hint.

People who share exactly the same memories/dreams of another life as you and, as a result, are able to recognize you from the "dream" (memory) when they meet you in true life.

There's also tendencies to be able to understand another language as a young child and speak it fluently.....without ever literally learning it if you know what I mean.

Also often kids who are freakishly smart who go on about how they want to go back "home" and how they used to live *insert name of planet/city/description of historical house...etc* should probably be taken into account.

I'm only picking things off the top of my head from personal experience here, so there's probably a lot of other ways to tell if you've had a past life and what the past life was.

According to the law of averages, I would say, most would have had a life time before this one.
There are not to many who can say, this is my first.

For me, it started when I walked into the local Radio Shack in my hometown. I originally took my scanner in to see if it could get the scanner bed glass cleaned.
From the first time the guy behind the counter saw me, which he later admitted to me, he just felt 'pulled' or 'connected' with me somehow.
I had to come in a few times after that for things I had to pick up pc-wise (otherwise I would've had to travel 30 minutes north or south to the nearest large towns that carried anything).
We became friends and spent time together, and I was just starting out with my spiritual journey. The real sort of "big bang" moment I had was when we went to a Healing & Recovery store about 45 minutes north of where I live. Stones, crystals, healing music, etc. But it was the moment I saw a small figure of Quan Yin in a glass case and asked about it that I was just overcome with joy. So much so that I started sobbing. The guy I'd asked about the statue talked about when he'd been travelling and seen a lovely statue of her somewhere, but I was barely able to keep myself held together long enough to let him finish telling his story. lol
My friend sat down beside me and I just cried into him. The moment passed but I was just astounded to have had such a moment of 'this is right'.
On the way back home, my friend admitted to me that, when he got up that morning, he had a vision. He knew that I'd be crying at that store, but that, regardless of it and he not knowing why, we did have to go.
Suffice it to say, despite such innocent beginnings, we both discovered together about a past life we'd shared together.
Now, anyone can tell you 'oh you could just be making this stuff up, he could be lying about whatever', but, here's the thing. When two people who haven't known one previusly (in the current life), and who both remember a past life time and place, as well as specific moments and details of then, that there is no way to fake this. And when a perfect stranger crosses your path and is able to remember the same things you do, you just know.
Just like if you meet someone you didn't know, and you both remember a specific day at a kid's park that happened years back. No way to prove it happened, but you both remember the same things and can finish one another's sentences about what's happened.
Of course, this has only happened to me a handfull of times. The rest of the time, memories from my past lives just sort of, for lack of a better word, bubble up into my conscious mind. For me it just starts as a feeling of 'I've forgotten something. I KNOW I have. It's right on the tip of my mind... I can't grab it but I can feel it's there'. When I stop trying to reach for it and grab it, the memories come to my mind.
They're like remembering things from when I was little in this life. I may not always be able to place the exact when and where they happened, but I know in my heart that that's my past, that that was me, that those things happened. For good or bad that's remembered, I'm glad I've been able to remember so many things.

Goodness and look at me rambling on! I guess to try and answer this question in the shortest way possible, how does one know they have had a past life?
You remember it. Just like, how do you remember what happened at your birthday party when you were 7? You remember it. You don't try hard and force yourself to remember it, you just sit down, relax, meditate on it and it'll come to your mind.
Are there certain indicators that point to a past life?
For me, it's always been more like a feeling, aside from the recalled memories themselves. Something is just familiar. Like, for me, ever since I saw a picture of a Japanese building back in jr high school, something deep in my gut, I could feel it. It just felt 'right'. I felt connected and drawn towards it. I couldn't explain why and didn't understand it until I was on my spiritual path. Long version short, I'd lived a LOT of my past lives in Asia or Far east-esque lives. That's why I have always had such a deep connection with Japan and China. It's not something you think about, it's just a feeling. A gut feeling.
How did I know I had a past life?
The memories came to me. That's how I know. And in the few times I've crossed paths with someone who'd been in a past life with me, that just confirms it beyond any doubt. It's an awesome feeling when you get to talk with someone else and you're both filling in one another's sentences. Not guessing but knowing. You're both remembering the same things.

At least, that's how it's been for me.
