Depends on how one defines the mind. I have a mastery of conception, I understand the process of forming and refining ideas. I have a mastery of knowledge vs. belief, a highly refined sense of rational truth. I am not a master of my own desire, this body and mind don't conform to my expectation. I have some mastery with bringing the Heart into interactions and practicing forgiveness and non-judgement. I have some mastery with getting into people's heads and seeing things from their perspective. I have worked significantly to dismantling the psychological hang-ups that come up. I would describe my mind as having been "mastered" for the most part. I've decided to make my mind a servant to my heart.

My own interaction with the mind allbeit rehabillitation has been from the position of abiding rather than mastering. Like a puppy you need to allow it to run around being a bit naughty just to get it out of its system. If I listen to it & cocreate with it I keep it as a friend......any more???

I don't know about mastering the mind, but we can use the mind as a tool, for that's all it is.

Enlightener- No, they have not lost their mind in the sense that I am talking about. They have become so totally identified with the mind that they believe that it is now their reality.
Mental illness is simply a complete ego-trip that takes over your entire reality.

Easy fella....
Mental illness is a genetic condition, like being born with no legs, only far worse.
It is a chemical imbalance in the brain. The suffering of the mentally ill is horrific.
To say that mental illness is simply an ego trip is like saying Christ on the Cross just wants attention.
I suggest you observe the mentally ill behind their locked doors. A week of that and you won't be saying it's an ego trip, you'll be saying, "There by the grace of God go I."
No one deserves compassion more than the mentally ill.
And compassion is part of spirituality, not harsh and also incorrect judgment.
However, the young require compassion as well.

Just another Buddhisty affirmation type thingy from Me;
"Formerly this mind went wandering where it liked, as it wished and as it
listed. Today with attentiveness I shall completely hold it in check, as
a mahout controls an elephant in must."
Pretty good analogy for My mind actually, hehe.
