The Unmistaken Child - Anyone see this documentary?

If not you should check it out. It's about a very genuine and affable monk who is in search for his master's reincarnation. If you've seen it what are your thoughts? This was my first experience seeing what it is like inside the world of Tibetan Buddhism.

Thanks for mentioning the documentary. I found it on Netflix. I love Tibetan/Buddhist films. What did you mean by thoughts on? About film technology, on which I know nothing, or about Tulkus and the way they are found, or child monks and the way they are raised?

The 'recognition' of tulkus has many doubtful aspects to it. Also, the monks who supposedly discover an important tulku can squabble with others who say they've found another child themselves who's the same tulku ! This results in internal lineage politics and intrigues, as in the Karmapa controversy.

There's a lot of romantic/ fanciful additions to scenic films which don't necessarily portray the truth with great accuracy.

I saw the film and found it very interesting. I find Samana's comments very insightful, as I don't know much about the subject - at least at that level - either. As with all things, I took some of the 'magic' stuff with a grain of salt.

One thing is certain - it was very refreshing to see the genuine humility of the monk(s) and too see a completely different culture in such detail. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Buddhist topics.

Many Blessings,

QuanKev
