Surrendering is dangerous. And love makes the seeing blind.

Is fear a better alternative?

Depends. Rational fear keeps you safe and helps you to stay more alert of any incoming dangers, but irrational fear isn't good in any way. Though sometimes it can't be helped I guess.

There certainly is risk in putting oneself out there again. To open up again. I think it helps to be mindful of negative emotions replacing love or being open to love at least.

Technically, love can be among those 'negative emotions' you mention. People have committed the most horrible atrocities in the name of love. And more than often, love goes on par with Stockholm Syndrome. Love can be a very dark and evil force that leads to hatred, envy, and vengeance. I don't believe that love is the ultimate force that governs the universe like so many other people believe here. Love or any kind of feeling is totally irrelevant to everything.

I think humans do things in the name of love but it's not true love. True love does none of those things you mentioned. It's the ego that does them.

Fear is the energy that contracts, closes down, draws in, runs, hides, hoards, harms. Love is the energy which expands, opens up, sends out, stays, reveals, shares, heals - Neale Donald Walsch

LOL this can be answered in many ways I suppose...

Like infatuation with another person..
But I was also thinking.. discovering and growing closer towards something, someone, or a cause or activity...

Slayer,

It's not love which does those things. Its ego. Fear, hatred - all these are of the lower, illusionary self which dominates most of human consciousness at this point.

Love is not a feeling.

But you are right - in that for people who have not healed, who do not know true love, they (we) are capable of doing harm.

This is why spiritual practices can help - there are different types, depending on the person's disposition, background, interests. Someone can also read and review different ways of thinking, living.

I think Love is a great way to live, Slayer. YMMV.
