Spirituality and Covid-19

Spirituality, a source of comfort, support and meaning, instills the idea of a sense of belonging and existential interconnectedness, promoting mental health. In the literature, in fact, the accent has been placed on the association that exists between having spirituality and having a greater perception of well-being, physical and mental health. A particularly important aspect is related to coping, or the function performed by spiritual well-being in the management of stressful events. Spiritual coping can be understood as cognitive and behavioral efforts to find or maintain meaning, purpose and connection in the face of difficult situations.

Especially in stressful situations, faith and spirituality seem to also act positively on the immune system, particularly for older people who are also those most involved in religious and/or spiritual activities. Furthermore, spiritual well-being is defined as a state that connects the mind and body of the individual, society, intelligence and health, supporting the individual in his/her attitudes and life goals.

In this period of the COVID-19 pandemic they seem to assume a role and an even deeper meaning in relation to the bewilderment that people are confronted with when faced with such a pervasive, disruptive event, creating daily fragility, fear and uncertainty. In particular, the spiritual distress in those people going through adverse situations, such as that caused by COVID-19, should not be underestimated. By spiritual distress we mean suffering connected to the impossibility of feeling meaning in life, a state of anguish that occurs when an individual experience suffering that in some way undermines their personal identity, for example by raising existential questions about the reason for that particular suffering.

What are your thoughts?

we are all one that is what a lot of people forget. we are all on our own journey.
but at the end of the day we all came from Spirit. and we all go back to spirit

To me spirituality is simply the awareness we are spirit and not the physical form. As well we acting more and more through the spirit instead the body/mind which I see as the ego.
I draw my comfort and serenity through this connection rather than from those around me.

Everything in this life takes on a representation of what we are within, open and aware. So the pandemic opens up what seeks to be known for each individual as things are for them.

Each person, situation is unique. Suffering too, will be viewed through the individuals suffering or not.

Spirituality allows for a deeper awareness of change and suffering both individually and as a greater.

In general, even those who don’t hold a ‘spiritual connection’ , still go through as they are..deal as they are. Life experience builds ongoing also deconstructs and opens people who don’t have any spiritual guidelines. They use their life experience.

My thoughts?

A nice, consoling post. The covid anxiety has been worsened in the UK (probably everywhere for that matter) by the delays to specialist diagnoses and treatment re other life threatening diseases, let alone routine surgery because the National Health Service is under stress.
Cancer sufferers (some of them young mums) who could have been saved now know they're going to die). It affects us all.

The cynical joke in the UK is referring to the NHS as the National Covid Service.

So an uplifting post.

I agree with Native Spirit.

The past 18 months have presented many challenges and disruptions, and it seems to have been a huge learning process for Humanity. Our usual routines have been interrupted, making many people re-evaluate what is important to them. Like any crisis, it brings out the best in some people.

For many people, the possibility of dying is something abstract which happens to other people, usually when they are older. Being confronted with our own mortality by something which may strike out of the blue shakes us out of our habitual complacency.

All we can do is find our own inner spiritual centre and rest there in the midst of all this outer chaos. And of course, be kind to each other.

Peace

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, not all people share the same sentiment but here in the forum, most of us learned how to thrive and be sane during this pandemic. I got those from an article that I've read. I would like to share it and maybe you guys can bring more of your thoughts out of it.

This pandemic has changed our lives drastically, but we should always look on the bright side. This pandemic has also some positive impacts on our lives and the environment.

Agreed, by the way, do anyone here shift to planting during this pandemic? I made my own garden of turnips and crops and that's one of the things that led me away from overthinking and such.

This is a basic fact that two types of energy exist in our bodies that is: positive and negative energy.

If negative energy is more powerful, then we are prone to all sorts of illness due to outside negative energies like “corona”.

Simple basic steps for boosting our immune system on regular basis are:

1)be 100% vegetarian

2)take spiritually energised water.

3)take spiritually energized food in daily routine.
