I have this same issue when meditating, I have a hard time breathing through my nose and when I try I get very out of breath

When I first started meditating, it seemed impossible to simply observe my breath without altering or controlling it in some way. It was very hard to get comfortable being with my breath. This passed as I progressed and is no longer an issue. It was simply a matter of letting go of that need to force and control the breath, which was a gradual process of reprogramming my mind and developing concentration and tranquility.
