Rock is a mind blowing experience that moves people. Brats wanna shock, not rock. Rockers wanna show people what they've got!

LOL that made me laugh pretty hard. You've got your own ideas about rock and that's fine, but trust me you don't know anything. The musc you adore is mere shadows of something alive that you've never seen and probably never will. It's dead and lifeless. If you actually experienced something pure you'd probably cry like a baby. I've seen that happen too. Or get scared and run out the door lol. Better to stay in your safe world with mind and ears trained to be closed where you belong clone.

I think everyone has their own opinion/version of what they consider "rock"! It doesn't always have to be loud pounding drums and squealing guitars...but yes, "authentic" is a perfect word - it has to touch your soul in some way. For me, the biggest part of a song is the lyrics - if I can relate to the lyrics, I'll usually be hooked Which is why I usually hate tunes where the instruments drown out the singing, or the "singing" is actually just "screaming" and I can't understand what they're trying to say!!! But then there are always those songs that just make you crank up your radio every time, lololol!!

Sure everyone like something different, but if someone's going to ignorantly ridicule what they don't understand I'm gonna say something. People that are really musicians don't ridicule other styles of music they don't prefer. If they do then their stuff probably sucks because they're so closed minded about music.

I can enjoy many kinds of music. Some more than others. Opera for example can't keep me 'involved' for too long.
Much of musicianship/artistry involves "stretching the boundaries"; going into unexplored areas. Sometimes this can produce "ugliness".
There will be people drawn to this new thing, and people repulsed by it. I don't see either reaction as "wrong".
here's two tunes: Boston, "More than a Feeling":

Edgar Winter, "Frankenstein":

Where I come from we were attacked in the streets because of the music we liked and had to fight to defend ourselves. It comes in all forms, whether it's your music, skin color, sexual preference, etc.

That is awful. I doubt that musical preference was the actual cause of the hatred...just an excuse.
here's a pretty tune from a 'hard-rock' band:
Led Zeppelin, "the Rain Song": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4v-_p5dU34
