Question Is this Amethyst piece called a chunk?

Hi again,

This is another piece which came from my sister's former father in law. It was originally given to my sister and husband with many other fascinating pieces. When my sister and her husband split up (long after the father in law died) - this was given to me, rather inauspiciously, in the bottom of an aquarium of fish as a tank decoration. Sort of insulting to the Amethyst, I think. It has now sat, for years, in my office on a counter top. Although I thought it was beautiful, I didn't know anything about crystals until very recently. I've just cleansed it for the first time and am beginning to become acquainted with it.

I'd like to confirm first - this is amethyst, right?

Second, would a piece like this be called a chunk? Or is there a better name?

Is there any way of knowing what sort of rock partially surrounds the crystal?

It felt is deserved equal time being shown here - since I'm asking questions about another stone right now, too. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I don't know what the other crystal is you put on the other thread, but this is definitely an amethyst. The rock surrounding it is called geode..a rocky sediment. That is a mighty chunck of amethyst you have there and will put out lots of energy. Place your hand on it and you will find its cold to touch.

Thank you, NightSpirit! I'm thrilled to hear this. I did wonder if it was part of a geode - because he did give them many geodes. It threw me off that it didn't look like a partial "ball" shape - but maybe it was just a huge geode and the roundness of it doesn't seem as apparent with this one piece? (Or maybe I'm all wrong?) It DOES feel very cold to the touch. In fact, I was thinking that today when I was touching it. I hope it likes living with me. I'll do all I can for it now that I understand a bit more.

Cool! Geodes don't always come in ball shapes. If you cruise the net you will find pics of different shapes. The colder the piece feels, the stronger it is. Amethyst is a very beautiful stone for working with. I might suggest you read up on its qualities via the net as well. Lucky you!

Thank you, Summerland, Spiritlite and NightSpirit. This is so exciting to me. Thank you for helping me learn more about it.

And yes, NightSpirit, it does indeed feel QUITE cold. It shocked me yesterday how significantly cold it felt. I'll be doing a lot of reading now.

I've been much more in touch with my various guides and angels than ever before. I think somehow they've awakened me to what has been in my midst for all these years with this amethyst and now the tourmaline piece, too. I must be sure to show my gratitude for their assistance.

Thanks, Lightwithin - cluster - that does sound right. Got it!

Thanks, Spiritlite. Yes, now days she sets NEXT TO the fish. She's been in the moonlight twice now since the pics. I think all is well. Funny thing, maybe the amethyst was so clogged with negative energy that I didn't get a feel from it before. But since the moonlight - I do feel a lot from her. The tourmaline piece sets on the opposite side of the table.

The tourmaline one is pictured here: http://www.spiritualforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=8597

I soooooo wish I would have known my sister's father in law better before he passed away - the source of these wonderful pieces!
