i'm sort of an outsider to the phenomena, but i can take a shot at it.
the underlying idea is that two individuals are paired up at inception.
in the course of manifesting into earthly forms, perhaps throughout
several/many lifetimes, eventually one or the other or both of the
individuals becomes aware of the "connection" between them.
the aware individual seeks to complete the reunification of the two
into a whole "one pair". when the other individual is unaware of, or
in denial of the "connection", they seek to distance themselves from
that reunion... they are a "runner". the "chaser" is the aware person.
from my (quite limited) experience, there are few if any people who
would recognize themselves as "runners", since they are in denial of
the authenticity of the relationship.
so, a chaser is an "aware" person who seeks reunification with their
twin-flame.
amirite?

HORACE, you are right. And what makes it even more painful for us aware individuals is the sheer amazement that the other person would want to deny or run away from this connection. Based on everything I know about human love, movies, songs, everything, what me and my twin had is what human being seek in life, and yet, when that loved showed itself, he turned it down. Be careful what you wish for; sometimes when you find what you're looking for it's too intense to handle...

in an earlier phase of my present lifetime, i've experienced the TF
chaser/runner dynamic as a runner. for me, it was like a game of
hide and seek... i was an excellent hider. i've never been found!
teehee, or boohoo, whichever, lol

Could it possibly be because there is no connection or the assumed connection came with unreasonable expectations which the prey wasn't ready to succumb to. It happens, people being people.
I have to confess seeing this TF thing in action, it seems to promote selfishness in the common sense of the word. Why should anyone expect anything of anyone else? It is so easy to misinterpret signs that signify a range of possibilities. Get it wrong and what you're believing in is erroneous. Delusion is an enemy of relationships let alone spiritual development.
But then as a female it seems a little strange I can't share this passion for TF as a concept or practice. It seems predominantly a female thing. Perhaps I'm old for my years but one dates people, if you get on, fine, if you don't you bite the bullet and close the thing down. For the purest of love one needs no commitment.

in dancing, people sync up their movements:
when one steps back, the other steps forward.
i see the chaser/runner thing as an expression of that.
it's like a Fandango, which can become a
"a foolish or useless act or thing" when the performers
aren't acting in partnership.

Right. Thanks for that.
It does seem to be part of the mating game though regardless of the title it's given - a pursuer and their prey!!

one without the other doesn't have meaning.
