I felt the need to make a song celebrating Bowie and his ascent into the stars today with my group. Very heartful, though fittingly bombastic. Here it is:

https://reptilex2.bandcamp.com/track/star-of-david

And these are the lyrics:

You're in the stars with Lou now
You're in the sky with Ronson
You're deep in space near Mercury making us all so happy
And with a telescope of laughter
Eno's looking up
and Iggy's in the tall grass
and everything corrupt dies in a trail of fire
and your eyes pierce through
Gentle Capricorn lover, the thin white Duke
I heard the news last night
and though these tears flow from me
You made a kingdom out of nothing at all
and wrote a story for humanity
You fulfilled your purpose, as many fail to make it
And if there's a Starman
then it's the Star of David!

Thanks guys. I just wouldn't have felt right if I hadn't done that song. It was a bit rushed, as I felt it was important to get it out on the same day as his passing, but in a way that makes it more genuine. Bowie, along with Lou Reed and Brian Eno, really inspired me when I was younger.

Here is a nice tribute from Chime Rinpoche to David Bowie. A Tibetan Lama whom David Bowie met in 1965.

I'm not a "fan" of anyone almost as a rule but when I heard he died all I could think was he did his job very well. Not being a musician but inspiring, and opening minds. He broke so many of societies rules, he never tried to fit in, he almost was leading a revolution, breaking free from the fear of condemnation for being different, for thinking different.

Artist and philosopher, he really influenced people for a half century almost.
69 years old, he packed so much in. Can't help but be impressed. If he was here strictly in service Id say job very well done. Don't have to be a saint to help the world evolve.

I feel some misunderstood the subtlety in his lyrics. I have heard some say some of his work was 'demonic' and that he was attached to the Occult -Crowley etc! (Usually those of the fundamentalist persuasion!)

In "Quicksand" for example, there is much that is Buddhist, and some that is clearly Kabbalistic. He was investigating many spiritual things, and incorporating them into his art, without limits.... But an underlying message always seemed to be that there is something much bigger than our concepts awaiting....
