As a child my sisters and I played with my grandmothers decks all the time, they were playing cards not tarot but she used them to read for her clients. She lived into her 90's, taught my mother to read and myself how to read. She was taught by her mother.

I don't think so...at least, it doesn't affect me. I bought all of my decks and I've been doing pretty insightful readings so far. I think it comes down to how you feel about it--since what you feel will affect your energy. :)

I've purchased all of my decks as well. But I remember starting out and hearing that the deck should be given to you. I was a little apprehensive as I wanted to do everything just right. Somehow, I wanted to learn to read the Tarot so much that I got brave and just did it.

I think the most important thing for a beginner is to have a deck of cards that make sense to you. The first deck I picked out had no pictures and it was so frustrating to learn. It wasn't long before I picked out another deck that did and that was a huge help.
