What's the difference between mythology and folklore

All my favourite folk or fairy tales seem like they would fit into mythology.

Folklore is a group of stories shared among peasants. Mythology is based upon centuries of legends with vast detail, family trees of gods and epic adventures.

Folklore is stuff handed down by tradition. It can be useful information (use ash or hickory for axe handles, beware of accepting gifts from fairies) or tales. Folk tales can be legends about famous people, myths about the divine, or just stories. In practice, there's always an overlap. A typical folktale motif is the "man born to be king". That can be told on its own (Oedipus) or it can get into a myth (Moses).
