It's a real flower. I wish I knew who he was, do you think he's real?... Or is he actually very small?

Now that's what you'd call a triffid...I wouldn't dare put my hand near it...eek!

I've heard of a plant that flowers very rarely and when it does, it stinks of rotting flesh. The latest photos remind me of that plant. Am I right?

Great colours though.

Those, are aroids called "Amorphophallus ( a-morf-o-fal-lis)". Most smell like rotting meat, and I belive the second one gem posted, is the "dead horse arum", take a guess that that smells like.

I actualy got about 12 corms ( the "bulbs" they grow from) to plant this year. Not the ones posted ( A. Konjac, and A. Symoniensis ( i cant spell that one)

The leaves themselves look like something out of the lost world!

A very interesting little plant. The 'tree' is a soft fleshed thing... um... like a frog's skin maybe. Mostly the sap from it is really corrosive. This plant actuallty dies off then the flower just pops out of the ground. The tree then comes back from the underground bulb or rhizome or whatever it is.

Time,

years ago i also bought one of those little 'bulbs' As i recall it didn't need soil?( that was about 50 years ago so i don't recall the particulairs) i do remember due to complaints i had to put the thing outside when it bloomed. The flies adored it.

Zanier Gazania

An African yellow gazania
did wish for a climate much rainier
"For if I could bloom
without fear of doom
my colours could be even zanier!"
