BUDDHIST VIEW ON ABORTION
What are the Buddhist viewpoints on Abortion?
Do they consider abortions wrong and need atoning? What do they do for atoning?
In Buddhist countries, can a person get arrested for having an abortion?

I can't answer most of your questions but yes, generally speaking abortion is against the teachings of Buddhism and would be considered an unskillful action.

Most Buddhists would probably say "don't do it"
If a woman would come and say "I had an abortion" I as a Buddhist would say "OK, so what?"

I met one woman who use to be my girlfriend. She told me she was pregnant and I was the father. Then she looked at me and said that I wasn't but wished I was. She claimed she had to get an abortion.
I saw her later and she told me she wanted to carry the baby the longest time period she could. She considered her action to be illegal and had to hire a doctor to perform the abortion in secrecy.
