Hematite shouldn't be cleansed with water?

EDIT - I found the answer to this question! No one else needs to reply to this thread now. But thanks for looking!

Why?

I've been doing a bit of hunting around and keep seeing, basically, 'hematite should not be cleansed using water'.
I have a single point hematite pendant (not magnetic), and earlier today (not for the first time since I got her) she kept nudging me to put her in running water. (When I first got her that's one of the first things she kept telling me. I gave her a day outside in the soil, which she wasn't overly fond of, but then let her spend a day and a half under a slowly dripping faucet with cold water which she enjoyed and let me know it.) Whether that was at the sink faucet or let the shower run for a few short minutes with her directly in the stream. (Actually caught her giggling and laughing when I left the shower running for a couple minutes with her tied to the shower head, cold water running this afternoon.)

So, my question is, why not bathe hematite in water to cleanse it? Does the stone give off some super funky fumes? Does it dissolve in water?

Interesting question Dawn, sorry I don't know the answer ~

I do have a question for you though, if you find out why "hematite should not be cleansed using water " .....

who will you listen to ? those who seem to be ' in the know about such things ' or will you listen to what your hematite is asking you to do ?

Its your choice, I prefer to use sea salt and selenite to cleanse my stones. I do rarely use water when I feel like they need it. I am always aware of what stone I have though.

Dream Angel, good point. (heh and thanks. Sometimes I need reminding about stuff like this. Kinda like a 'duh' moment.)
But what I don't get is when I had a small piece of selenite some years back. From the first minute she got here, it was a consistent feeling of 'put me in water put me in water put me in water'. I didn't think of looking up the information at the time, but after a couple hours I started noticing the selenite was getting smaller. I was like 'eek! Oh no!!' I took her out of the water, intent on keeping this piece of selenite, but that feeling continued. She HAD to be in that glass of water. That's exactally what she wanted. She didn't want to be in that form any more (no matter how much I wanted to keep that piece of selenite).
But yeah, good point. All in all it boils down to "follow what you feel". And being a stone or crystal talker, you just have to listen to what you're told. The ones in your care are telling you what they want.

Kristin, Justreal, thank you for your recommendations.

Still though, it does make me wonder why other places have written 'do not cleanse hematite in water'. They go so far as to say that much, but don't say a word as to WHY. Very odd.

EDIT -
AH-HA!!! Found out why from http://www.sunnyray.org/Hematite-stones.htm !
"Pat says: When cleaning and charging hematite, why should we avoid water? Will it harm the stone or the wearer?
sunny says: No, not the wearer, it could affect the stone. As an iron based stone, it's better to avoid contact with water. Mineralologically, when put in contact with water, hematite forms a sort of interface - a very thin water layer at its surface. So, it won't really harm the stone, but probably it is not a good idea to clean it with water too often."

Dawn, interesting on your piece of selenite and the water. And now we know ... the rest of the story about why, one doesn't put the hematite in water ! Thanks for searching and finding the answer to share.

Dream Angel, tell me about it. I was so thrilled when I bought it and a piece of kyanite. I was kinda upset when I saw the selenite dissolving away into the water, but try as I might to offer or think of other options, in that cup of water was the only place that selenite wanted to be.

^_^ Very welcome, Dream Angel!
