It's not really fake citrine. It's heat-treated citrine. And mostly the default descriptions of citrine you find online go with that exact type of citrine.
It's still citrine, just that the transformation from amethyst to citrine wasn't natural and went faster than normally. But natural citrine is also amethyst that was changed into citrine by heat during natural processes. That obviously take much longer.
Still doesn't make the heat-treated citrine fake, well, not in my book anyways. Had it been yellow glass, then I'd call it fake. But it's still a crystal with lots of energy.

Like fire & ice crystal is heat treated too. And boy do these have energy! Extremely powerful!

Oh, and ametrine isn't always natural either. It's more rare than amethyst, and the diameter of the erm ... what on earth do you call that... layer in the earth isn't much more than 10 cm. Meaning if you come across large pieces, it can't be natural. The citrine within has a certain pattern. That's what I once read on a miner's site from a company that mined the real deal and explained how to recognize it.
And real ametrine costs an arm and a leg.
I've got some ametrine pieces, but I doubt they're natural as they do not have that pattern. But they're still nice pieces :)

Oh well ...
