Media Wiccan Symbology

Blessed Be and Namaste.

So, I started this one in another thread and thought I'd create a thread here for all my thoughts to spill out over on to - I hope you guys don't mind. I was a practicing Witch for many years - one could say I still am because I follow the Hindu Tantric path or Left -Hand Path within Hinduism...but anyway:

Broom:

This is why you see the broomstick associated with witches. This is the symbology of the whole thing (and why I mentioned it). Witches work with channeling spirits all the time and after a while, so much psychic junk and clutter builds up they need to do a huge spring clean, both internally and externally so they can 'clear the channels' as it were and start fresh. They can clear out all the negative energies they channel indirectly by using the broom in a cleaning ritual.

Point Hat:

The Pointy Hat represents the arc of wisdom or the mitre that some religious personages wear. It represents one who has raised their energies into conscious awareness and can stop them from going out into the universe, re-directing the flow back inside the witches body - much like a pyramid channels energy back into the earth. Call it a 'power dome'.

Black Cat:

The Black Cat is called a 'familiar spirit' and represents the witches clairvoyant power, the ability to see into unseen worlds through opening the Third-eye chakra and also their love and connection with nature and the whole natural world.

Black Cloak:

The Black Cloak represents the veil of hidden knowledge or all that is sacred and esoteric. It's the witches teachings, path, rituals and method. It is the veil between worlds and allows the witch to travel between them.

The Chalice and the Athame:

The chalice represents the female receptive energy (Shakti) as the vessel - the receptacle of all knowledge and sacred wisdom. The Athame is the male energy or Siva. Once the Athame is placed in the chalice, it becomes the sacred seal of 'as above, so below' and completes the divine tantric union between energy and form.

Wart on Nose - General Ugliness:

This goes to represent the fact that appearances aren't everything and that true beauty lay within one's heart and soul. Often those people who are the most 'ugly' are the most beautiful people deep inside. It reminds us to be careful about who we judge superficially.

Cackling Eccentricity:

A lot of Wiccans just tend to have a warped sense of humour and can't help it. We find things that just make us laugh in humble appreciation of our gifts, our place in nature and that of the universe - like a laughing Buddha. We also have gone through so much pain and anguish in our lives that all we can do is laugh about it.

May love and light guide you all on your journey.

Blessed Be.
