I remembered the eyes were dark, not red, so I'm ruling out the Northern Goshawk.

Hi White Warrior. It could be a Pergine Falcon if it's single toned. Maybe what I saw was a large chick that doesn't have defined feather coloring yet.

My friend thought that I saw the bird as a spiritual messenger. The reason being that an elderly woman died of a heart attack in the kitchen of our apartment prior to our moving in. For 2 weeks, my husband would wake up at exactly 4:44 AM complaining of someone pushing on him or chest pressure.

Happens to be one of my favorite avians...
It's possible WhiteWarrior.However,the Peregrine also displays more than one colour.The head has a dark 'cap' with white facing and the mantle is slate grey with the underparts creamy-white.

Yes a juvenile Peregrine could be the bird you saw Berry.It's markings are much less defined than the adult,with a lot of dark vertical streaks on the underside as opposed to horizontal barring in the adult.
