We Write

We Write

For a few different reasons
To record our history,
To plot a different course,
To shape folks up sub-vocally
When talking makes us hoarse.

Reveal our depth,
unveil the shallow.
To worship God
all nature hallow.
To encase the mystery,
a scavenger hunt of sorts.
To stretch imagination
most intriguing of all sports.

We excavate our souls,
in anonymity
To exercise this glorious gift,
the gift of words,
a rich and precious library
highest gift that God has sent
deserving of a spot
on the periodic table, this element.

We write to capture
moments of rapture
tastes of divine proportion
emotion by the ocean
sights that bless,
scents that caress
Sensations, limitations
conquered by the best
the wordsmith, and so
we write,
thereby enriching the earth.

This sport has a day, this May
Once a day, in April, is too soon
For April it's showers
But for May it's flowers.

"Heel Thyself!" my witches warn!
"And watch what comes if we grant this boon."
And here I sit beside the cauldron
Watching the boughs, and their eyes, a smolderin'

I like this verse, why?
Perhaps it holds a clue to the special day referred to in verse 1.

Hmm, sounds like Halloween, but that's in Fall.
Hmmm... Sport eh?
May-be I was cursed by the witches smoulderin' eyes,
for the first thing to occur to me was a ditty from my youthful days,

"Hooray, hooray, the first of May!
Public necking starts today."

Well, hello Timothy. Now ya done it,
sent me to google to discover what mystery day in May you might be referring to.
I'm like that... And Beltane isn't mentioned at all in wikipedia's list.

"Proclaimed days in USA:
May 1: Loyalty Day
May 1: Law Day, U.S.A.
May 15: Peace Officers Memorial Day
1st Thursday in May: National Day of Prayer
2nd Friday in May: Military Spouse Day
2nd Sunday in May: Mother's Day
3rd Friday in May: National Defense Transportation Day and National Transportation Week
3rd Saturday in May: Armed Forces Day
May 19: Malcolm X Day
May 22: National Maritime Day
May 25: National Missing Children's Day[5]
last Monday in May: Memorial Day[6]

I give up!

So... 11 to go?
Otherwise, Timothy, I have not been able to figure out your riddle.
