Byram Estate – the 99-door mansion of Penang
The Byram Estate mansion was once owned by one of the richest families in the United Kingdom and was built in the 1840s.
The now 180-year-old mansion is also known as the 99-Door Mansion due to the odd arrangement of doors that are fitted into each room.
It once housed The Ramsden Family, who manages a handful of estates in Penang back in 1948, under the Penang Rubber Estates Group.
According to researcher Leslie A.K. James, the group’s managing director, John St. Maur Ramsden, was murdered by two gunshot wounds, shot in the back of the head while going upstairs of the mansion.
