A computer person told me that while typing, the computer doesn't really register that you're doing anything (even though it seems "to humans" that typing IS doing a whole lot of stuff). He suggested that while typing, do something else that shows the computer that you're doing something, like scrolling up and down a little bit, or highlight and copy your typing.

When I do the above (scrolling is quicker of course, rather than highlighting and copying), I haven't been logged out in a long time, while typing a post. (Before getting this information, I was logged out a lot.) But sometimes I get sloppy and don't have the cursor EXACTLY on the scroll bar -- then while scrolling the typing disappears. So, I have to make sure the cursor is exactly on the scroll bar and nothing else.

While reading others' posts on the forum, I was logged out a lot too, untill I started scrolling up and down a little bit while reading.

So, scrolling up and down a little bit, every minute or so, seems to help.

Also, as others have suggested, checking the "Remember Me" button helps too! For people using public computers, an administrative person here typed a while ago, that the "Remember Me" button does not keep your password once you log out.
