I've definitely experienced this! I had a feeling a friend of mine would contact me and did a reading asking if my hunches were correct - it said this person wouldn't contact me, wanted to move on, etc ... but the next day I got a really upbeat message and they seem EVEN MORE involved/wanting to talk and spend time more, what's that all about?!
Sometimes I get a reading and I'm like 'WHAT?!' ... doesn't relate at all. It's very rare, but it does happen so you're not alone!
ETA: If I doubt something or feel negative, it comes through in the cards ... maybe meditate first. I find if I use my third eye whilst shuffling it really helps deliver and accurate reading!
