Well, we're social animals, so yeah, in that respect you could say it's inherent in our nature to take it badly if we feel we've been ostracised. It's perfectly understandable that you'd feel that way, and I'm sure most of us can relate to the hurt of feeling that we've been left out. What I would say is, don't deny the pain - I know you want to improve your self-esteem and it probably feels like a set-back that you're hurt by the lack of an invite, but the fact is that you do feel hurt, and there's nothing wrong with that. So it's fine, be with the hurt, maybe have a good cry if you feel like it, that's always good for the soul

Oh, and maybe it'd be a good idea to tell your friend how you're feeling about the situation, she might be more understanding than you think and there could be a logical explanation for why she didn't invite you.
