Dragons actually look like the illustrations..but they are not from our earthen realm. A spirit does not always mean one that has already passed on or died, but can refer even to a living entity that is just from a different realm. Dragons, unicorns, fae, djinn, mermaids, and many more.
Long ago, these races used to coincide with humans, but humans are a most destructive race.

So although a dragon may look like a dragon (and can take on the form and shape you envision them), you can't see their true form or experience other manifestations unless you bond with one (they have to let you), and usually it is through the astral realm, like astral projecting or dreams (though they can produce many paranormal sounds and signs in our realm).

This information typically goes for any spirit. It helps if you are sensitive to the sixth sense or if your 3rd eye is active/opened.
